Cachoeira do Rio de Pedras
A refuge almost unknown to conventional tourism, in the middle of the ridge just past the bridge over the Rio de Pedras, on the road leaving Cavalcante toward Santa Bárbara / Engenho II. It's the same river that supplies part of the town — top-quality water, so clean it shelters the rare Brazilian merganser. A discreet fall amid an all-rock bed, with pools for swimming and almost no visitors.
- A spot off the commercial circuit, with no facilities or signage; access passes through the town's water-catchment area. Go with a local Cavalcante guide who knows the right way in past the Rio de Pedras bridge.
- The fall is full and beautiful in the rainy season (Nov–Mar); in the dry season the volume drops a lot. Since it's a rock bed fed by a mountain river, watch for flash floods on days of heavy rain.
