Caverna Terra Ronca I — Lapa de Terra Ronca
The most imposing cave in the Parque Estadual de Terra Ronca: the entrance portal is 96 m high by 120 m wide, and the Rio da Lapa runs through the chambers — at one point the water reaches waist height and is crossed with the aid of a fixed rope. Inside is the Salão dos Namorados, with enormous stalactites and stalagmites, and the altar where the Bom Jesus da Lapa pilgrimage takes place on 5 and 6 August.
- A park-accredited guide is required for all the caves. A combined Terra Ronca I + II tour runs around R$ 220/person (minimum of 2), including helmet, headlamp, and insurance; prices vary by operator.
- Time on site limited to 600 min.
- Visits in the dry season only (April to October, with the mid-year months being ideal). In the rains there's a flash-flood risk and the Rio da Lapa levels rise, making access impossible. Visiting hours 8am to 5pm.
