Cachoeira Boa Brisa

Verified

On the Rio São Félix, within the quilombola community of São Domingos (quilombola, but not Kalunga), the Boa Brisa drops in two ~15 m tiers into a crystal-clear pool with a white-sand beach. The place's secret is two warm springs that surface beside the fall and contrast with the cold river water — look only: entering them is forbidden, the ecosystem is far too fragile. The trail crosses the São Félix and skirts buriti groves to the waterfall, usually combined with the canyon of the same river.

Planning your visit

Cachoeira Boa Brisa is about 65 km by road from Cavalcante; access is by a rough dirt road — high-clearance recommended; the final stretch requires 4×4; the trail is 5.5 km round trip, moderate level, around 3 h.

The visit requires a local guide: an attraction in the quilombola community of São Domingos (not Kalunga land). A local guide is required and strongly recommended, both by community management and because of the poorly signposted trail stretches and river crossing. Do not enter the warm springs — they are extremely fragile ecosystems; enjoy them from the edge; entry costs R$ 20 per person.

Can I go in a regular car?
High-clearance recommended — rough dirt road, avoid after rain. The final stretch requires 4×4.
When to go?
Access via a dirt road that calls for 4x4, especially in the rainy season (Nov–Apr), when there's a flash-flood risk at the Rio São Félix crossings. The dry season (May–Sep) is safer for the trail; the rains give the fall more volume.
